Working from home is becoming more and more common these days. It’s a luxury, especially to those who have children at home, but there are also some downfalls to the home office. The most obvious of these is the inability to focus and create a functioning workspace. Of course, what’s ideal and comfortable for you might differ from what others prefer in regards to a home office. One thing that most would agree on, however, is that blocking out background noise is preferred. In order to create the most optimal home office for you and your family to use (The kids can use it for homework and studying.), apply the following soundproof methods below.

1. Even when closed, doors can allow additional noise into a room. This problem can be easily fixed by installing a solid-core door along with some sort of threshold or weatherstripping at the bottom.

2. Noise can travel through even the smallest of openings, so wherever there is a possibility for sound leakage, you need to caulk it off. This includes electrical boxes, outlets, tiny holes in the walls, and windows.

3. Drywall is far from soundproof. If you want to increase the efficiency of your walls, simply apply acoustic soundboards over the current drywall. You can even apply another layer of drywall over the sound blocking boards if you desire that look.

4. In addition to the walls, you also have the option of putting acoustic boards underneath the current flooring and on the ceiling.

5. Incorporating fabric chairs or a small sofa with pillows is an easy to eliminate excess sound. Not to mention, you can hang soundproof curtains over the windows, but this will require bringing in additional lighting to replace the natural sunlight.
